Description

Sight words are a selection of words that readers can instantly and effortlessly recognise. Some of these words can be phonetically decoded while others – known as tricky words – can’t and need to be memorised. Sight Word Swat is a fun, fast-paced game that helps young readers build confidence in this essential aspect of reading and literacy learning. Players use child-sized fly swatters to swat the fly cards with the correct sight word answers to the questions that are called out. The player with the most flies at the end of the round wins! Suitable for 1–4 players.

Sight Word Swat is colour-coded to the Letters & Sounds programme and is easy to integrate into lesson planning across a range of phonics programmes used in  primary schools.

  • This game features 300 high frequency words from phases 2–6 of the Letters & Sounds phonics framework and cards are colour-coded to make it easy to sort and use.
  • For beginner readers, use fewer cards than the total available in the applicable phase. For more advanced readers, play with additional cards or use cards from another phase to challenge or reinforce words.
  • "Tricky" words are highlighted for easy identification to remind children that they can't sound out these words phonetically.
  • Includes 4 colourful fly swatters, 150 double-sided flies and instructions. Plastic swatters measure 23cm L.
  • Suitable for 1 – 4 players.
